Power of Giving

A New Milford woman dedicates her life to helping those who cannot communicate due to ALS, or Lou Gehrig’s disease. By supplying computers and software, she has single-handedly helped hundreds of people to regain their voices, and maintain their independence.

Shirley :

......

The microphone has helped me communicate more with my family, especially all my nieces. It has allowed me a chance to speak a little when several people are in the conversation, or when I'm outdoors. . It's very helpful when I'm having a day with throat pain or weakness.

......

Thank you,

Tom

computer technology can give people a voice

Voice For Joanie is a non- profit corporation that provides assistive technology to people suffering with ALS, so they may have a "voice".

VFJ volunteer(s) meets with the client and family members to evaluate the need and to determine which communication equipment will help. Computer technology is adapted and modified according to specific needs, and a volunteer is assigned to each client to provide continuous individual support.

During the 20 years it has been in existence helping those suffering from ALS, Voice For Joanie has assisted over 850 people.

Joanie was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease)

ALS ( Lou Gehrig's Disease) is a progressive disorder of the nervous system which causes degeneration in both upper and lower motor neurons and results in muscle weakness.
